Description
With King Tiharqa, Khayo Benyahmeen composed a heavyweight UK dub instrumental, built for sound system sessions. Deep bass and steppers rhythm arrangement.
The sharp mix and master has been handled by Dougie Wardrop from Conscious Sounds, the long-running UK dub studio active since the early 90s. Known for its uncompromising sound and collaborations across the dub scene, the studio remains a cornerstone of modern UK dub production.
This tune stays true to a classic dub approach: clean delays, deep reverbs, precise cuts and drops. Every element is designed to breathe in the mix and hit hard through a proper sound system. The B-side features an alternative dub cut, more stripped-down and experimental.
The identity of Abendigo Records is rooted in a conscious and historical perspective. The title references King Taharqa, whose poster was a constant presence in co-founder Jahlow’s studio.
King Taharqa was a pharaoh of the 25th Dynasty of Kush (Nubia), a symbol of resistance and spiritual strength in African history. Taharqa is known for his opposition to the Assyrian empire and for ruling ancient Egypt as a Nubian king, representing a powerful era of African cultural and political influence. This historical reference feeds the identity of the track: resistance and upliftment.
